Dog Onion Toxicity Calculator

Screen onion-ingestion risk for a dog. Not a substitute for a vet.

Dose (g/kg) 2
Risk level Lower dose — still monitor and consult a vet

Formula: dose = onion(g) ÷ weight(kg) ; toxic ≈ 5 g/kg

Step-by-step with your numbers:
1. Values used:
2. Dog weight = 15
3. Onion eaten = 30
4.
5. Dose = Onion eaten / Dog weight = 30 / 15 = 2g/kg
6. Risk level = Lower dose — still monitor and consult a vet
Did we solve your problem today?

⚠️ Onions (and garlic, leeks, chives) damage a dog's red blood cells. If ingestion occurred, contact your vet — this only screens the dose.

The math behind it

dose (g/kg) = onion grams ÷ weight (kg). Toxicity is generally seen around 5 g/kg (about 0.5% of body weight), but smaller amounts over time also harm.

Worked example

15 kg dog, 30 g onion → 2 g/kg (monitor; still call a vet).
