Place Value Calculator
Find the place value of a chosen digit in a whole number.
Place value tells you what each digit is worth based on its position in a number.
The math behind it
Counting from the right, position 1 is ones, position 2 tens, position 3 hundreds, and so on. The place value is the digit times 10^(position − 1).
Worked example
In 58,234 the digit in position 3 (hundreds) is 2, worth 200.
