Find how much coffee to use for your water and brew strength.

Coffee 31.25
Coffee (tbsp) 6.25

Formula: coffee = water ÷ ratio

Step-by-step with your numbers:
1. Values used:
2. Water = 500 g (ml)
3. Ratio (1 : X) = 16
4.
5. Coffee = Water / Ratio (1 : X) = 500 / 16 = 31.25
6. Coffee = 6.25tbsp
Did we solve your problem today?

Dial in your brew. A ratio of 1:16 means 1 g of coffee per 16 g (ml) of water — a common balanced strength.

The math behind it

coffee (g) = water (g) ÷ ratio. Lower ratios (1:14) are stronger; higher (1:18) are milder. About 5 g of ground coffee per tablespoon.

Worked example

500 g water at 1:16 → 31.25 g coffee (≈6.25 tbsp).

FAQ

Grams or milliliters of water?

For water they're essentially equal (1 ml ≈ 1 g), so use either.
