Did we solve your problem today?

Work out how many 50 lb bags of thinset mortar you need. Coverage depends mainly on the trowel notch size you use.

The math behind it

Bags = tiled area ÷ coverage per bag, rounded up, plus waste.

Larger notch trowels apply more mortar and cover less area per bag.

Worked example

120 ft² with a 1/4 in trowel (~95 ft²/bag) + 10% waste → 2 bags.

FAQ

Which trowel size?

Use a bigger notch for bigger/heavier tiles — it leaves a thicker bed and covers less area.
