Sand Calculator

Estimate the volume, weight and cost of sand for your project.

Volume 0.6173
Weight 0.8333
Total cost ($) 0

Formula: tons = (L × W × depth/12) × density ÷ 2000

Step-by-step with your numbers:
1. Values used:
2. Length = 10
3. Width = 10
4. Depth = 2
5. Density = 100 lb/ft³
6. Price per ton = 0 $

Did we solve your problem today?

Find how much sand you need for paver bedding, sandboxes or fill. Results in cubic yards, tons and cost.

The math behind it

Volume (ft³) = length × width × depth, converting depth from inches to feet.

Weight = volume × density. Dry sand ≈ 100 lb/ft³, wet sand ≈ 120 lb/ft³.

Worked example

10 ft × 10 ft at 2 in deep → 16.7 ft³; at 100 lb/ft³ = 1,667 lb ≈ 0.83 tons.
