Dry Matter Calculator

Convert an as-fed nutrient to a dry-matter basis.

Nutrient (dry-matter basis) (%) 40
Dry matter (%) 25

Formula: DM basis = as-fed % ÷ (1 − moisture/100)

Step-by-step with your numbers:
1. Values used:
2. Nutrient (as fed) = 10 %
3. Moisture = 75 %
4.
5. Nutrient (dry-matter basis) = 40%
6. Dry matter = 25%
Did we solve your problem today?

Compare feeds fairly by removing the effect of water content.

The math behind it

dry matter = 100 − moisture. Nutrient on a dry-matter basis = as-fed nutrient ÷ (dry matter ÷ 100).

Worked example

10% protein at 75% moisture → 40% on a DM basis.

FAQ

Why convert?

Wet and dry feeds can't be compared as-fed because water dilutes the numbers.
